| | One of the more useful new features of Dreamweaver CS5 is how easy it is to get a new site set up. I used to set up new site areas pointing to sub-directories on my personal site just so that I could have them separated out from my regular pages. Because Dreamweaver CS4 and before forced me to have hosting information for the site even if I wasn't planning on uploading it anywhere. But now, adding a new site is really easy - just one simple step, in fact. This week Darla also provides us with some great XML glossaries and I'm asking about the features of web editors that you value. Did you know that I've been writing about HTML, CSS, and Web design since 1997? I have hundreds if not thousands of articles on the site that have just as much relevance today as they did when I first wrote them. You can find them by searching the site, or more simply by browsing my article library. And if you can't find the answer to your question, you can always suggest an article or ask a question in my Web design and HTML forums. | | Dreamweaver CS5 Makes it Easy to Start on a New Site Older versions of Dreamweaver forced you to go through a lot of steps to create a new website. You had to know things about your site, like where it was going to be hosted, that you might not know right off the bat. But Dreamweaver CS5 makes it simple. There are only two things you need to know to start building a new site - and you can make both of them up! | Dreamweaver Asks for Hosting Info When You Need to Upload One nice thing about Dreamweaver CS5 is that it only prompts you for information about your site when it needs it. You don't need to know exactly where you're going to be hosting your website until you're ready to upload it. But once you need to upload it, there are just a few steps you need to take to get it onto your hosting provider. | Do You Know Your XML Terms? There are dozens of different jargon terms in XML, but Darla has you covered. Learn some of the more commonly used XML jargon so that you can understand the language and be able to apply it more directly to your work. | Poll: Which feature is most important in a web editor? When I evaluate web editors, I look at over 30 different features that I think are important. Personally, I want my editor to have a code or text editor in it, an HTML validator, file upload, extended search and replace, color coding, and tag completion. If it doesn't have those features I won't use it. And the most important one for me is the code or text editor. What do you think is most important?
